Tuesday's Meet

This week's league meet is tomorrow at Fairport.  It looks like we should have fairly nice weather for this meet, which will be a nice change of pace!

The scoring is expected to be quite close in both the girls and the boys meets, which should make for some very exciting races.  The first events are scheduled to begin at 4:30pm, with the Boys 110m High Hurdles on the track, and the usual collection of field events starting at the same time (probably Girls Shot Put, Boys Discus Throw, Long Jump. Pole Vault and High Jump).

For newer fans, the Fairport track is located out behind the school, which is on Ayrault Rd, a bit east of Turk Hill Rd.

Splits from Penfield (and one Brighton event)

Well, my Friday posting, much like the subject it was covering - the two meets on Friday - was interrupted and never completed.  The varsity boys and girls attended the Brighton Relays and the JV squads went to a JV meet at Pittsford Mendon.  Sadly, the weather continued to put a damper on our track plans and the JV meet was cancelled after the 1500.  I don't have times from the 1600 and 1500 yet.

At the Brighton Relays, disorganization seemed to delay the first event by 15 minutes, and the rain got heavy for part of the national anthem, but subsided a bit for the hurdles.  Then it was the 4x1600m relay on the track, with the girls running first.  The strong wind was going to make this a tough event, but Katie got things off to a good start, finishing not too far behind Penfield, Starpoint, Fariport and Mendon.  Kelsie went next and Brockport's Autumn Albrecht took her team from well behind us to well in front.  Ashlynn held steady, and the Julia, as the conditions worsened, gradually made up ground until she was within about 30m with 300m to go and unleashed a strong kick to sail by for 5th place.

At that point, the weather was clearly affecting the competitors, as well as the fans and officials, so a pause was initiated.  After conditions did not seem to improve, we decided it would be best to call it a day.  Shortly after we pulled out, the decision was made to cancel the remainder of the meet, so we ended up just getting a head start out of there.

4x1600m
Katie  1:26  1:26  1:32  1:33  (5:56.9)
Kelsie  1:27  1:36  1:43  1:39  (6:25.3)
Ashlynn  1:40  1:42  1:44  1:42  (6:48.0)
Julia  1:31  1:36  1:42  1:28  (6:17.6)

And here are the splits from Penfield.  The boys finish times are not official, as I have not seen the FAT yet, but the girls times are official.

First League Meet

I should have posted some comments about our opener last weekend, at our very own Webster Invitational, but the tax man has had me under the gun for several days.  Anyway, tomorrow (Wednesday, April 17th) is our first league meet of the year, at Penfield. Both the boys and girls should have competitive meets.  The meet starts at 4:30pm, and for those that are new, or need a refresher, here is the order of events at all dual meets:

  1. 100/110 High Hurdles
  2. 400m
  3. 1500/1600m
  4. 100m
  5. 400m Intermediate Hurdles
  6. 800m
  7. 200m
  8. 3000/3200m
  9. 4 x 100m Relay
  10. 4 x 400m Relay
  11. 4 x 800m Relay
At the same time, the field events get underway with the boys preceding the girls in half of the events, and ladies first in the other half (I don't know if it is consistent, but it probably is).  The field events include:
  1. Long Jump
  2. Triple Jump
  3. Shot Put
  4. Discus Throw
  5. High Jump
  6. Pole Vault
Go Warriors!

Meet Postponed

As just about everybody knows, today's scheduled opener against Rush=Henrietta has been postponed.  No rescheduled date has yet been identified, so we will have to wait on that.

That means that our opener will be our own Webster Invitational on Saturday.

Back at Schroeder Today

The snowfall has caused today's track practice to return to Schroeder so that the poor sprinters and jumpers don't melt!  Assuming this all melts soon, we will be back at Thomas tomorrow afternoon.

Today marks just one week remaining until our first scheduled meet of the year.  It remains to be seen whether a postponement will be necessary.  As of today, the long-range forecast says 55 and sunny for Saturday, 4/13, which will be the Webster Invitational, rain or shine.
