State Rankings

This past weekend's invitational activity allowed the NYS Sportswriters Association to issue their first set of New York State XC rankings for 2012.  You can find a link to the rankings on the NYSSA Rankings page.

With our girls finishing relatively close to #8 ranked Rush-Henrietta at last weekend's race at Bristol Mountain (that officially had no team scoring), they ended up being ranked 17th in Class A!

This weekend, we face a bigger challenge, as East Aurora's girls are ranked #2 in Class B and Canandaigua is ranked #3 in Class A.  BTW, Other girls teams from Section V that are ranked include Penfield (#12 in Class A), HF-L, Mendon, Mercy and Batavia (#s 8, 12, 19 and 20 in Class B), and Geneseo and Oakfield-Alabama (#s 8 and 10 in Class D).

In the small school race tomorrow, Fredonia (#5 in Class C) is the clear favorite.  They are led by Lauren Reyda, who starts off the year with the fourth fastest Tully speed rating in Class C, and could win the race by over a minute.  Notre Dame - Batavia may be able to give Fredonia a bit of a challenge.

For the Boys rankings, Thomas opens up the season ranked 9th in Class A, with R-H at 15th.  Section V is well-represented in Class B, with Mendon, Brighton and HF-L taking the 3rd, 8th and 15th spots.  In Class D, Campbell-Savona is 4th and Notre Dame - Batavia is 6th, although I believe they have been moved up to Class C.

We will also see two ranked boys teams from Section VI this weekend.  East Aurora is ranked #1 in Class B and will be in our race, while Alden will be in the small school race and is ranked #4 in Class C.
