Around the League

Some notes from Tuesday's league meets:

Harris Whalen

The Thomas boys took advantage of R-H resting their varsity, to remain undefeated in Division 1 and take sole possession of first place, with R-H losing to Penfield as well. Jared and Cole finished together, 1-2, just barely ahead of Tyler Gumina from Penfield. Thomas had 9th graders in their 4-5-6 spots, running 18:09, 18:40 and 19:06.

On the girls side, Canandaigua edged Penfield, 27-29, despite Leila Mantilla winning again, this time in an impressive 19:09, 2nd fastest in recent years at the park.

Mendon East

Athena’s boys had an easy time, taking 4 of the top 6 and 6 of the top 10 spots, with Odyssey their closest competition. There was the same result in the girls race, although all of the scores were closer.

Parma

Schroeder boys and girls swept, with further research showing that this is the first time the girls have swept in the internet results era (2003-2010).

Seneca Park

Victor defeated the Mendon boys, 27-29, with Mendon well off their performances at East Aurora and McQuaid. The Mendon girls also seemed to have a post-McQuaid letdown as HF-L turned the tables on them, in the battle of the two remaining undefeated Monroe County teams. While Mendon prevailed 91-97 at McQuaid, HF-L took the dual meet, 24-31. Of course Shalyn Tuite still managed to knock 33 seconds off her course record, winning in 18:14.

Northampton Park

Brockport boys have closed their 1-5 spread to 1:56, but it was still not quite enough to surprise Sutherland, as they lost by just 28-29. Sutherland’s spread was just 38 seconds, as they remained the only undefeated team in Monroe County league competition. Hilton fell back off after their solid McQuaid performance and were edged by Brockport, 26-30. The Hilton girls were not at full strength at McQuaid, but seemed to be here, as the edged Sutherland, 25-30.
